Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is diesel engine tuning or remapping?

Diesel engine tuning (or remapping) is the process of optimising your vehicle's Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to unlock better power, torque, and fuel efficiency. Using our in-house dynamometer (dyno), we simulate real-world driving conditions to precisely adjust parameters like fuel injection, air-to-fuel ratios, and timing. Every tune is custom-written to suit Australian conditions, diesel fuel quality and how you use your vehicle.

2. What are the benefits of diesel engine tuning?

Beyond noticeable increases in power and torque, a custom dyno tune delivers a smoother throttle response, improved fuel efficiency, and optimised automatic gearbox behaviour. For 4x4 and tow vehicle owners, this means effortless overtaking, less gear hunting up hills, and much better performance when loaded up.

3. Is diesel engine dyno tuning safe?

Yes. With years of experience in real world conditions, we know how to tune your diesel to improve power, torque and fuel efficiency without compromising on safety. One of our tuning ethos' is to keep all factory engine protection strategies in place (intake air temp, fuel temp, fuel rail pressure, coolant temp, etc.).

4. How much does diesel engine dyno tuning cost?

We operate on a flat-rate basis so there are no hidden surprises. All common-rail diesel ECU tuning is priced at $1,250 including GST.

5. How long does the dyno tuning process take?

The duration can vary, but most dyno tunes typically require the car to be left at the workshop for a full day.

6. Will dyno tuning void my vehicle's warranty?

It's essential to check your individual vehicle's warranty terms. However, under Australian Consumer Law a dealership cannot simply "void" your warranty. Although it is possible to have a warranty claim refused, if proven that the failure was a direct cause of the modification. The same applies to aftermarket wheels, suspension and lift kits.

7. Are there any risks associated with dyno tuning?

When performed by a qualified professional, dyno tuning is safe and routine. However, any time an ECU is reprogrammed, there is a minute risk of a flashing failure (often referred to as "bricking" due to power loss, tool failure, or file corruption). This is a very rare occurance for established tuners, and we personally operate on a level where this occurs between 0.1 and 0.2% of the time (1 in every 500-1000 cars). In most cases we are able to repair the ECU in-house, however in the unlikely event that this requires downtime or outsourced repair work we will always cover any expenses and provide a loan car.

8. Do you offer a warranty or satisfaction guarantee on your tunes?

Yes! We stand by our work and are confident in the drivability and performance of our custom tunes. If you aren't completely satisfied with the results within the first 30 days, we will work with you to adjust the calibration or return your ECU to stock and offer a refund.

9. What models of vehicle do you tune?

We offer dyno tuning services for a wide range of diesel 4x4's, contact us to enquire about your specific vehicle. Our most commonly tuned models include the Toyota Hilux, Toyota LandCruiser, Ford Ranger, Isuzu Dmax, Mazda BT50, Nissan Patrol, Nissan Navara, and the Holden Colorado.

10. What sets your dyno tuning services apart from others?

Ryan is a Mechanical Engineer with a passion for tuning. We treat your car like it is our own, and perform as many ECU tune revisions as required to ensure you are happy with the result. We were the first dyno tuning shop located in Grafton and the only workshop able to offer custom tuning solutions that are performed in-house (not just uploading files from a dealer network). This is what make us the top choice for dyno tuning within the Clarence Valley and surrounds.

11. Do I need any supporting modifications?

If your car is a manual, depending on the specific model you may require an upgraded heavy duty clutch to hold the extra torque. Apart from this, most things are a luxury and not specifically required depending on your goals. However, anything you can do to get hot air out, and cold air in, will be beneficial. Think 3" exhausts, upgraded intercoolers, etc. Please call us to discuss your goals and we will run you through any required modifications and any brands or products that we would recommend.

12. Do you have a courtesy car or am I able to wait while you tune my vehicle?

While you can wait and watch, we really prefer the car to be left with us so we can focus on the task at hand. For this reason, we offer a Ford Ranger courtesy car free of charge, which you are free to take into town while we tune your vehicle.
